Yay, Summer!
Oh hurrah. Summer is upon us in the Northern Hemisphere! If you know me, you might think that this sounds a little odd. During my city years, I’ve actually grown to, if not actually hate summer, to think of it as something to endure. Far enough away from beaches for it to be an effort, not enjoying sweating like that proverbial pig, and generally panicked about hard deadlines for September 1 at work, my recent summers have not sparked joy.
This summer is different.
A different summer
This week I shared my news with you that I’m making some big changes in my life (not caught up? Read the posts below and subscribe to never miss the latest news!), and they start very soon. Like two weeks from today, when I hand in my work laptop and phone, and walk out the door into a new life.
While I have a move to book in the middle of it, and some complicated feelings associated with that, I also have an epic summer planned. I have a Boston Bucket List of activities (seeing Jaws outside on the waterfront tonight!), friends to see, swimming to do, and living my new life to get on with.
And then, come September, travel. So much to look forward to! Yay, summer!
What are you looking forward to this summer?
Reading
I picked up a couple of novels this week that dance around a theme that interests me. The Midnight Library, by Matt Haig, and This Time Tomorrow, by Emma Straub look at choices we make and who we became as a result of them, by way of fantastic circumstances. I’m fascinated by the idea of roads not taken and also by ghosts of our former selves. Sounds like a good way to spend some summer reading.
What’s on your reading list?
Upcoming
Here’s what’s coming this week.
Travel: The Wonder & Sundry Guide to Lisbon goes live on Saturday! In addition to the map, we’ll also have neighborhood guides with recommendations of things to eat and experience while you’re there. I’m so excited to share more about one of my favorite cities with you. This guide is exclusive to subscribers, so get on it and subscribe now if you haven’t already!
Eat I got a bit inspired by Joy the Baker’s single-serve crostata that I shared in the Summer Recipe Roundup. I’m not going to make a crostata, but I am going to make a fruit galette and be one of those summer baker babes. Be sure to see how I did on Sunday.
See We’ll have a more traditional Sundry Wonders post this week, with a photo gallery and a meditation, but we’re going to move this to Tuesday during Summer Hours.
Until then, let’s catch up on posts below.
