And we’re off!
This is it, friends! Tomorrow I leave for my grand adventure in the Balkans! I can’t wait to take you with me. How amazing.
I’m in the midst of packing palooza and trying to nudge my internal clock toward Balkan time (hint: it involves getting up so early that even Ollie wasn’t having it). Yesterday I voted absentee in the New Hampshire primary and arranged to have my ballot mailed (the Croatian address definitely surprised the city worker) and got my updated Covid-19 booster.
I’m so grateful that I was able to get an appointment to get boosted before I leave. Please get boosted (link provided for US residents), if you are eligible.
Reading
My mom agrees—you HAVE to read the Night Watchman, by Louise Erdrich, if you haven’t already. I finished it earlier this week and immediately handed it over to my mom, who is about halfway through it. It is hands-down one of the best books I have ever read. Sublime writing, and what a story.
On the recommendation of a reader, I have picked up Erdrich’s the Sentence, which I’m planning on starting on the plane. I welcome any suggestions you have as well!
Upcoming
I’m traveling this weekend, as you know, but there will be posts.
- Travel: Since I’m going to be dealing with jet lag, I figured this was as good a time as any to share my tips for mitigating it. I’d love to hear yours (the sooner, the better, please! Haha).
- Eat: Autumn is coming right up, and I have a fall recipes roundup for you.
- See: Sundry Wonders will feature some of my first photos from the Balkans! It ain’t going to be flowers from Camberville around here anymore!
In the meantime, let’s catch up on last week’s posts below. Next stop, the Balkans!
