Holy Blitzen, December’s going by fast! Last week, I took a deep breath, ready to get through a short month of work (I’ll have two weeks, starting next Friday), and now, we’re already approaching mid-December. We had our first proper dusting of snow yesterday, and it reminds me that I have work to do to get ready for the holidays!
On Monday, this little blogging concern turns one! That went fast. Thank you so much for joining me on this adventure. We’ll be having a little celebration next week.
And time has also stood still
Even as I’m shaking my head as a year has passed, I also find myself in a bit of a holding pattern. I imagine you do, too, such a strange time we’re living through. Cases are climbing in my little corner of the US, and, while I do feel much safer after my booster personally, I’m still worried.
And, let’s face it, a bit bored. Like a lot of you, I re-watched the movie Contagion when all this started. My criticism is that the boredom montage that occurs towards the end of the movie instead needs to account for about 92% of it.
Taking a break from the news
Between our never-ending plague and a lot of other bad news, I find myself in need of rest. I wrote about that in this week’s short Sundry Wonders post. I’m taking a bit of a break from the news. For me, this doesn’t mean not paying any attention, but it does mean releasing myself from hypervigilance. I’m of no use to anyone if I’ve tied myself up in knots to keep up with all of the details from every story. Balancing the need to keep informed so that I’m able to participate in democracy and the need for inner calm is something I need to work on.
How about you? How are you coping with all of this?
This past week, in addition to Sundry Wonders, we also looked forward to travel and parties. If you’re traveling this holiday season, the post on packing carry-on luggage for a better journey. And, if you’re having a little gathering, get your 90s on and enjoy some Artichoke Spinach Dip (it also very much works for a Netflix binge. I’m not telling why I know that). We also celebrated little Ollie, who sends his love and wants to know what snack you’re bringing him.
I’ll be honest, I am still mulling things over for this upcoming week, as I have a few ideas. We will, however, follow the usual cadence:
- Saturday: Travel
- Sunday: Eat
- Monday: Sundry Wonders
- Wednesday: Grab bag
We’ll definitely celebrate Wonder & Sundry’s birthday, too. Thanks again for reading!
