Grič Tunnel

WWII bunker turned art space

Absolutely Wonderful

Why You'll Love It

During the wars following the breakup of the former Yugoslavia, a rave was held in Grič Tunnel, a WWII-ear nuclear bunker dug underneath Gradec. At the time, the tunnel had fallen into disuse, and I can only imagine what it must have been like dancing all night in there. The part of me that still loves 90s raves is a bit jealous.

Today, Grič Tunnel is open to the public and connects Mesnička and Stjepan Radić Streets, and you can also enter it near the funicular. It’s definitely worth checking out.

You can find public art displays in here, and, during Advent Zagreb, it transforms into a fantasy.

Know Before You Go

Once you know your way around, this is a convenient shortcut. However, while Zagreb is generally a very safe city, I would take care in walking through here alone at night
