A week of reckoning in America. Back to work, jubilation for Georgia.

And then.

Exhaustion, anger, deep sadness, but not bewilderment. This reckoning was coming.

Quiet streets, most people huddled indoors, glued to the news. Snippets of  hushed conversation, all on the same topic. Over four thousand people died of Covid-19 on Wednesday, and we didn’t even register it.

Numb.

A wreath discarded on a fire hydrant. A fallout shelter.

On Sunday, sun. A long walk with a friend.

A neighbor still has their peace sign up from the holidays. I looked to it as a prayer.
