Mini Dark Chocolate Cake: Just Enough of a Good Thing

Welcome to Wonder & Sundry! Travel, Eat, and Live the good life, right here, right now!
Happy Friday! How was your week? What's on for the weekend?

The sun has finally come out, but it's a bit of a skating rink out there. But . . . the roads are clear, and I'm off to see a dear friend in a few minutes. I'm excited to see her and get out of the house.

New recap post up on the blog. This week, we explored Froggyland, Split's delightfully odd taxidermy museum. We made Roast Pork Tenderloin with Blood Oranges, which I have to tell you is delicious. My thoughts were a bit freewheeling with Sundry Wonders; I'm blaming all the snow. I've also shared what I'm reading these days and given a sneak peek of what to expect next week.

On a more serious note, there's a lot going on out there in the world. I've needed to take a break from the unrelenting news for a time, but I do have some links up where you can donate if you're able.

Check out the post, linked in the usual spot, and subscribe to never miss a thing (totally free, and it comes with goodies).
Gray days like the ones we’ve had in New Hampshire this week call for bright dishes, and this one is most tasty. Roast Pork Tenderloin with Blood Oranges is easy enough for a WFH weeknight dinner, but also tasty enough for a special occasion. I don't know about you, but that's my kind of dish!

This small-batch recipe makes two servings with a little leftover for a sandwich, but it’s easily scalable if you wanted to serve it to guests.

Click the link in my bio to get the full recipe and let me know if you make it! I hope it’s nicer out where you are, too.
It's January, snow storms are coming every other day, and while I'm still in the "It's SO pretty!" phase, I can feel my mind sliding. It really is a matter of perspective, I suppose.

The sidewalks are a mess, so I haven't walked far today, but I did get outdoors to shovel. The trees look like children's drawings, and I do love how quiet is gets after a storm.

New Sundry Wonders post, with more snaps from this snowy week and some rather freewheeling thoughts. Link in the usual spot.

How are you faring with January?
Lemony Carrot Soup with Dill is soooo yummy! It's somehow both warm and comforting and bright and fresh at the same time. You probably already have the ingredients on hand to make yourself a pot of deliciousness, which is just perfect for a snowy day.

How was your week?

Snow falls gently outside (I don't hate it . . . yet), and I'm reflecting on the week that was. January (in the Northern Hemisphere, at least) teaches us the importance of rest and encourages us to reflect. I certainly needed to do both this week.

On the blog, I shared one of my all-time favorite recipes, tips for taking better rest days when traveling (this is partly a reminder to myself), a good-news PSA on renewing your Global Entry, and reflections on a busy mind and working on overcoming the tyranny of the urgent.

In writing Wonder & Sundry, I'm exploring what makes for a good life, one filled with wonder, especially for single people. This week's posts reflect that. Delicious food, travel experiences that open our eyes to this amazing world we live in, practical advice when it helps, and reflections on this human life we live.

That sundry part? I take it seriously.

Check out posts you may have missed in my weekly recap, and subscribe if you'd like to hear a little more (it's free). You'll also be the first to hear about what's coming next. The link is in the usual spot.

I'd love to hear about your week, too.

📷️A snowy morning in New Hampshire
My mind this week has busied herself with all kinds of questions and decided that everything is important, all the time. Maybe it's some kind of reaction to my decision to try and be more intentional about my life this year. Come to think of it (there I go again), that probably is it.

In corporate culture, we all too often succumb to the tyranny of the urgent. I know I did. It's something I really struggled with and am trying to unlearn. Some questions take time to answer, and some things just take time to do.

Or rather, they are taking me time to do, if I'm going to act with more intention.

I took Ollie for a walk in the morning sunshine and chatted with neighbors before I sat down to do anything at all. I looked down and saw this jumble of seasons, everything at once, and decided that it will all come together in the end, and I would set about doing today what I could do today.

This might be a bit of a mess, but if you're thinking something similar, I'd very much like to hear how you calm your mind. There's a new Sundry Wonders post with some photos and more about this on the blog today (link in the usual spot). I hope you have a peaceful day.
