Demon Copperhead

Demon Copperhead, by Barbara Kingsolver

I’m not going to sugarcoat this, Dear Reader. Barbara Kingsolver’s Pulitzer-Prize-winning novel may be one of the best books I have ever read, but it was also so gut wrenching that I very nearly stopped reading it. This is a rough story, so much rougher than David Copperfield. The injustice leaves you infuriated and feeling helpless.

However, if you have read David Copperfield, then you know to keep reading. I don’t know how Kingsolver channeled a young boy in Demon’s predicament, but channel Demon she did. He is a singular character, and, while this book left a mark, I am so very glad that I read it.
