Absolutely Wonderful

Diocletian's Palace Silver Gate

Why You'll Love It

Diocletian’s Palace on the shores of the Adriatic remains the living heart of Old Split, and you’re right in the thick of it in Grad. You can pretty much explore the palace at will, and, while twisty and turny, everything in Grad is centrally located. This is the tourist heart of Split. Wander the ancient alleyways and marvel away, but don’t miss the outskirts of Grad, where you’ll begin to see some of the “real” Split.

The Details

How To Get There

Most of Split’s land and sea transport hubs will get you very close to Grad and the palace. Most of Grad is in the pedestrian zone, so be prepared to walk or ride a bike.

Solo Female Travel

I had an absolute ball wandering around Grad’s many nooks and crannies, and the relative safety of Croatia and Split made me feel comfortable doing it. You may be at an advantage when it comes to getting into popular attractions as a solo traveler.

Know Before You Go

Grad holds the majority of the tourist hotspots in Split. If you’re only here for a day, I’d focus my time here. If you’re here for more than a day, make sure to branch out beyond Grad.
